Hey there weekday warrior,

Here’s what’s on tap today… Jenny Huang just went shopping again, ChargePoint is having a moment, and OpenAI has a new model to rule them all.

Now, enjoy the next 3 minutes and 49 seconds of blue-chip news and commentary.

Keep on snapping necks and cashing checks,

Hug life

Hugging Face: *makes headlines by getting pwned by Chinese AI hack*

Jensen Huang:

ICYMI, rumors have been swirling for a minute that Nvidia $NVDA ( ▲ 1.8% ) was in talks to buy open-source AI platform Hugging Face

Turns out Obi Huang is getting a taste for M&A (weird, I thought he was T guy). Jen just wrote a Publisher’s Clearing House-sized check (read: $12.9B).

Friendly reminder, that’s the 2nd biggest purchase of Jensen Bourne’s career, just short of the $20B he dropped on Groq (the q one, not the k one).

And just in case you were wondering if it was ever OK to make the first move…

Apparently, Huanging Face called up DJ Jazzy Jensen over the summer to initiate talks, so, yes, it’s OK.

Per CEO Clément Delangue, they went to Nvidia first because it was the only place with $13B lying around “a perfect fit.”

“So, you guys worried about that whole Open AI hack thing?” - you, a reasonable question-asker

“Nah.” - Jenny Huang, probably

The Huang Dynasty said open models give defenders an “asymmetric advantage” because “there are way more people who are protecting than there are people who are attacking.”

Sept 21: Elon's "iPhone moment"

He's calling it "10x bigger than the largest product in history."

The last time a claim that bold turned out to be true, the product was called the iPhone...

...and investors who owned Apple beforehand saw it run as high as 7,537%.

An analyst believes this launch could be bigger.

We just published a free briefing naming 3 stocks positioned for the launch.

+ Name of the company is *checks notes* ChargePoint…

ChargePoint $CHPT ( ▲ 74.95% ) stonk mooned more than 70% yesterday after reporting a yuge beat on revenue and generally losing wayyy less money than anyone expected.

Share price is sitting right around $9 now after running a reverse split just last year to stay above the NYSE’s $1 minimum…

Despite a slowdown in EV sales over the last year, apparently there’s big-time interest in chargers…

Per CEO Rick Wilmer, “I think, altogether, the down cycle, or the doom and gloom, has been a bit overstated. I think there’s a lot more positivity at the ground level.”

Dude uses a lot of electricity words… that’s a good sign.

+ Two Huangs don’t make a right…

Speaking of OpenAI’s little hacks-ident, Scam Altman started rolling out his new terrifying exciting model.

GPT-6 Astra is on its way to a few select companies before it reaches gen pop. To be fair, Astra wasn’t one of the bad robots that escaped containment to hack Jensen’s new baby, but it was the first OpenAI model to reach its internal “Critical” cybersecurity threshold, which, great.

TBD when you and I will be able to use it to validate our personal convictions…

+ Get a job

Jobless claims jumped to 206k last week, which not great, Bob, but the thing is, nobody’s getting fired. Or hired… think: we’re stuck in a “no-hire, no-fire” market.

Everybody’s waiting for today’s real August jobs report to drop, and the Econ majors out there are expecting 65k jobs added and funemployment to jump to around 4.2%.

Meanwhile, JD Vance jumped aboard the Fed pressure train yesterday…

“We’re doing a lot of things to try to keep those interest rates down, but it would be nice to have some help from the Federal Reserve.”

> (Wednesday) Google escapes bid to force sale of ad tech business in DOJ defeat // Justice prevails for the good guys (Gmail, please see this and never mark me as spam...)

> (Tuesday) Apple enters John Ternus era as AI challenges and memory crunch intensify // The nicknames I’ve got lined up...

On Tuesday, I asked, “Would you ever buy something from a ChatGPT ad in a chat?”

68% of you said, “No, on principle.” Tell that to the guys funding Scam Altman’s IPO race…

Here’s what some of you guys had to say (and my response in italics)…

  • No, on principle: “We need an AI ad blocker for AI ads...” This but make it AI-powered.

  • Yes, probably: “I’ve bought a sweatshirt from IG while taking a dump. I’m sure I’ll cave at some point.” We all change eventually…

  • No, on principle: “But, keep in mind, I’m also the same guy who bought an ab-crunch ‘machine’ off of an infomercial circa 2003. So, anything is possible.” Did it work?

  • Other (write-in): “Who actually uses ChatGPT?” Underrated question.

  • Yes, and I already have: “Its really complicated to shut off an OnlyFans account that was solicited through ChatGPT. it signed itself up, i swear.” Big BONK energy.

Here’s today’s question(s)…

You need a ride to an important event, but there are no human drivers. Do you...

+ US stocks fell Tuesday (S&P 500: -0.7%) as fresh US airstrikes on Iran lifted oil and a bond sell-off kept buyers sidelined, edged up Wednesday (S&P 500: +0.5%) as AI strength shrugged off the same pressures, then surged Thursday (S&P 500: +1.1%) for the Dow’s best day in a month as yields finally eased. All it took was one dovish Fed guy.

+ The 10-year yield climbed Tuesday to a near-20-month high, touched 4.814% Wednesday (its highest since November 2023) amid a global bond sell-off, then fell back Thursday after Fed Governor Waller backed holding rates, cutting September hike odds to about 53%.

+ Oil jumped about 4% Tuesday to a one-week high on renewed US-Iran fighting, rose again Wednesday to put WTI up 9% on the week, then climbed a fourth straight day Thursday on fresh supply fears, though Putin’s openness to peace talks capped it. Four in a row, Hormuz stays undefeated.

+ The “smart” money (prediction markets) thinks there’s a 38% chance that OpenAI has the top AI model in 2026. (Polymarket)
